How to Use Thieves Oil
Let's explore how to use Thieves oil. There's 3 main ways to use Thieves essential oil - topically, through diffusion and internally.
What is Thieves essential oil? Thieves essential oil is a blend of clove, cinnamon, eucalyptus, lemon and rosemary therapeutic grade essential oils from Young Living.
Using Thieves oil oil topically means applying Thieves oil to the skin.
Most people use Thieves oil on the skin and the easiest and safest place to use it, is by rubbing Thieves oil under the feet.
Most adults use 2 to 3 drops under each foot. For children 1 drop under each foot.
Thieves oil can also be applied to other areas of the body including the chest.
To dilute or not to dilute? Thieves oil has a warming sensation on the skin, due to the cinnamon and clove oils in the Thieves blend. Some people use the Thieves oil undiluted on the skin - meaning they apply the drops of Thieves oil directly to the skin. Whereas other people dilute Thieves oil before application to the skin.
Which method should you use? Some people find the Thieves oil a little too warming on the skin if they apply Thieves oil on parts of the body besides the feet. If that's you, or you if you have sensitive skin or for elderly people, you may choose to dilute Thieves. To do that, either apply the Thieves oil to the skin then apply some vegetable carrier oil over the top. Or, dilute Thieves essential oil with a vegetable carrier oil, such as olive, coconut or sweet almond oil, or Young Living's V6 carrier oil, before applying Thieves to the skin. One drop of Thieves oil to 4 to 5 drops of carrier oil.
Mum Tip: For young children under the age of 8, it's generally recommended that essential oils be diluted before applying to the skin. If using Thieves oil with children, here's how to make it easy to apply a diluted mix of Thieves oil. Add Thieves essential oil drops to an empty essential oil bottle. Fill the remainder of the bottle with vegetable carrier oil. Then apply an Aromaglide rollerball fitment (available from Young Living) to the top of the bottle. That makes applying pre-diluted essential oils easy.
Thieves oil can be used in small amounts (for example 1 or 2 drops) per application during pregnancy.
A great way to benefit from essential oils is through inhalation. The essential oil can be smelled from the bottle or it can be used through a diffuser.
Diffusing essential oils is a great way to be able to clean and purify the air. It's also a great way for us to be able to breathe the essential oils into the lungs and respiratory system.
By diffusing Thieves essential oil, it cleans and purifies the air and kills airborne pathogens. Plus is smells great!
To diffuse Thieves, follow the directions for your style of diffuser. For example, if using a Dew Drop, Home Diffuser or Aria diffuser, add 6 to 10 drops of Thieves essential oil, combined with water to the diffuser. If you're using the AromaLux diffuser, insert the Thieves essential oil bottle directly into the diffuser. Or diffuse Thieves from your USB diffuser from your computer.
For the first time you experience diffusing Thieves, diffuse for a short period of time of 10 to 15 minutes, approximately 3 times a day. Once you've done that for a few days, your body will have become more accustomed to therapeutic grade essential oils, and you can then diffuse Thieves for a longer period of time. Most people choose to diffuse Thieves for 30 minutes, a few times a day.
If you're looking to combat airborne pathogens, particularly during the colder months of the year, Thieves oil can be diffused throughout the day and/or overnight.
It's recommended that only cold-air diffusers be used for diffusing therapeutic grade essential oils, to ensure that the full therapeutic value of the oil is maintained. Using an 'oil burner' that applies heat through a candle or heated device, can lessen the therapeutic value of a therapeutic grade essential oils.
The directions for using Thieves oil internally will depend upon the country you live in. Each country has it's own government guidelines, so you will see different labels and instructions in each country in order to meet that country's government requirements.
